Designing a Studio

I am proud of the studios I have built and believe a creative space has to be a place of safety and bravery. A spot for people to thrive. That means a stable, inspiring business. That means hiring a diverse group of people. That means creating rituals that feed our imaginations.

As long as I can remember I wanted to be in a hive…

…an unapologetic place of integrity where people deeply feel the value of the creative soul. It is the feeling you have when you are at a music venue, the crowd is pushing forward, dancing, and being taken over by the spirit of sound. You are bound by a common energy. This feeling that is crucial.

Below are some examples of creative environments I have had the privilege helping shape.

Battle of the Coverbands is our yearly event where we come together to make some music and have fun. The show is a blast, but it is the rehearsal where we come together as a community and get the song right.

Lifeline Cards

We designed a set of cards that are used to facilitate conversations about the work. These were made to push and provoke questions about the quality of the work we are creating.

Fortnight

IDEO Fortnight was our 2 week artist in residency program. Over the course of two months, artists would come in and make our studio their home. There was great work on view and a few of the artists became full time members of our studio.
